State Secretary of the Mongolian Ministry of Health Visits China CDC

On January 8-9, 2025, Dr. Ochirbat Dagvadorj, State Secretary of the Mongolian Ministry of Health led a delegation to visit the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC). The visit aimed to understand the institutional framework and operations of China CDC, providing references and insights for the establishment of Mongolia’s own CDC. Prof. Shen Hongbing, Vice Minister of the National Health Commission, Administrator of the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, and Director General of China CDC, attended the meeting.

Prof. Shen emphasized that China and Mongolia are friendly neighbors with a long history of collaboration between disease control agencies in personnel exchanges and technical cooperation. He noted the robust exchange of technical information and expertise during the COVID-19 pandemic significantly contributed to prevention and control efforts in both countries. Prof. Shen expressed the readiness of China CDC to assist Mongolia in establishing its CDC, support the creation of a communication and exchange mechanism between the two CDCs, and deepen the practical cooperation to enhance the health and well-being of their people.
 
Dr. Ochirbat expressed his gratitude to China for its strong support during Mongolia’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and commended the achievements of China CDC. He expressed interest in learning from China CDC’s experience in institutional development to advance the development of Mongolia’s own CDC, and to further strengthen and expand technical exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.
 
During the visit, the Mongolian delegation had several discussions with China CDC experts on the institutional evolution and core functions of China CDC, infectious disease surveillance, emergency response, chronic disease prevention, public health management and system development. The delegation also visited key facilities, including the Emergency Operations Center, National Institute for Occupational Health and Poison Control, and National Institute for Radiological Protection.
