Comprehensive Hepatitis B Prevention and Control Research Project Launched in Four Provinces
In alignment with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) goal of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030, the China Health Promotion Foundation, in partnership with the National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention (NCAIDS) of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), has initiated the Supporting China’s Action to Eliminate the Public Health Threat of Viral Hepatitis by 2030 – Phase I Comprehensive Hepatitis B Prevention and Control Research Project. The project aims to thoroughly examine the current state of chronic hepatitis B prevention and control efforts in China and to explore comprehensive prevention and control models featuring medical-public health collaboration, integration, and end-to-end management. The initiative spans four provinces and municipalities—Shanghai, Jiangsu, Henan, and Yunnan—covering eight cities and regions.
In December 2024, project launch and training sessions were held in each of the four provinces and municipalities. Leaders and experts from relevant fields were invited to deliver opening remarks and give thematic lectures. Detailed explanations were provided on the overall objectives of the project, the qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, and the criteria for selecting survey participants. Project staff conducted tabletop simulations of field survey scenarios to deepen their understanding of project implementation, enhance their problem-solving capabilities, and ensure the professionalism and effectiveness of the training. After the training sessions, project management personnel from the NCAIDS visited survey sites in Jiangsu, Henan, and Yunnan. They refined the field survey procedures, participated in on-site qualitative interviews, and promptly addressed issues encountered during the process through effective communication and resolution.
The implementation of this project will facilitate a comprehensive assessment and streamlining of hepatitis B prevention and control efforts in China. It is expected to significantly enhance the effectiveness of adult hepatitis B prevention and control initiatives, reduce the disease burden associated with hepatitis B, and provide strong support for achieving the goal of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat.
