Chinese Pathogen Identification Net Work Summary and High-Quality Development Seminar Held in Beijing
On December 12, 2024, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (China CDC) National Institute for Communicable Disease Control and Prevention convened the Chinese Pathogen Identification Net Work Summary and High-Quality Development Seminar in Beijing. The seminar was attended by Deputy Director-General Jiao Zhenquan of the Department of Surveillance and Early Warning and Deputy Director-General Liu Qing of the Department of Communicable Disease Prevention and Control under the National Administration of Disease Prevention and Control. Participants included leaders, department heads, and technical experts from the China CDC and its affiliated institutions, as well as provincial-level (including autonomous regions and municipalities) and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
During the thematic reports, Deputy Director-General Jiao Zhenquan emphasized the requirements for monitoring and early warning systems within the disease control framework and highlighted the essential role of laboratory-based surveillance. Deputy Director-General Liu Qing stressed the importance of bacterial infectious disease prevention and control while offering specific recommendations for capacity building within the pathogen identification network. Academician Xu Jianguo delivered a guiding report on recent advancements in technologies for responding to communicable diseases. Furthermore, Director Kan Biao of the National Institute for Communicable Disease Control and Prevention reviewed the developmental trajectory, current progress, and future directions of the Chinese Pathogen Identification Net.
Representatives from six provinces and municipalities—Shandong, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Beijing—reported on their local pathogen identification networks, detailing their construction and operational progress. The seminar also featured group discussions that focused on enhancing network monitoring capabilities and leveraging early warning systems. Participants actively shared insights and experiences to advance collective understanding and implementation.
The seminar aimed to implement strategies for promoting high-quality development in disease prevention and control, enhance laboratory-based network monitoring and early warning capacities, and fully utilize the potential of the Chinese Pathogen Identification Net in communicable disease prevention and control.
