Heads of the Africa CDC and China CDC meet in Beijing

On December 17, 2024, Dr. Jean Kaseya, Director of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), led a delegation to visit the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) to discuss ways to further deepen cooperation in disease prevention and control. Prof. Shen Hongbing, Director General of China CDC, and Deputy Director General Prof. Li Qun attended the meeting. 
 
Prof. Shen extended a heartfelt welcome to the delegation. He emphasized that the Chinese government has always attached great importance to development cooperation with African countries and highlighted that the close collaboration between China CDC and Africa CDC is a vital component in addressing global health challenges. He expressed hope that this meeting would further promote the ongoing collaboration process baesd on the outcomes achieved last November during China CDC delegation’s visit to Africa CDC.
 
Dr. Kaseya expressed his gratitude to Prof. Shen for the warm reception and praised the Chinese government’s substantial support to Africa’s response to the Mpox outbreak. He briefly reviewed the progress made in China-Africa cooperation in the health sectors and affirmed his commitment to further strengthening collaboration in the field of disease prevention and control to yield more results. Following the discussion, China CDC specialist briefed the delegation on China’s infectious disease surveillance system.
 
The delegation also toured the National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention.
