World No Tobacco Day 2023 campaign launched in Yinchuan

This year's World No Tobacco Day, celebrated on May 31.
 
"All localities and departments should continue to advance the construction of a smoke-free environment, strengthen publicity and education on tobacco control, and improve the smoking cessation service system," said Yu Xuejun, director of the National Patriotic Health Campaign Committee (NPHCC), vice-minister and member of the leading Party members group of the National Health Commission (NHC).
 
Yu made the remarks at the launch of the World No Tobacco Day 2023 campaign hosted by the NPHCC, in Yinchuan, capital of Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region.
 
He also called for greater focus on youth smoking, and the need for multiple measures to protect young people from the harm of tobacco, to make new and greater contributions to building a healthy China.
 
Zainawudong Yushan, deputy director general of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), introduced the youth tobacco control-themed science popularization exhibition co-organized by the China CDC and the China Science and Technology Museum.
 
He said that the exhibition is an attempt to guide young people to understand the dangers of tobacco, to mobilize young people to pay attention to tobacco control and participate in voluntary activities to advocate a smoke-free culture. 
 
The exhibition, running from May to October, is expected to get more people involved in tobacco control through easy-to-understand popular science education materials and diverse forms of interactive activities.
 
During the event, the NHC, the All-China Women's Federation, the China Family Planning Association and other departments introduced their tobacco control work. Beijing, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Shenzhen, Yinchuan and other provinces and cities shared their experience at the frontline.
 
In addition, the Chinese Health Education Center reported the progress of China's tobacco control mass communication activities, new media representatives signed a tobacco control initiative, and Health China Action's tobacco control ambassadors issued an appeal for tobacco control.
 
After the activity officials in charge of tobacco control departments of various provinces, representatives from all walks of life in Ningxia, tobacco control experts, and members of the press visited and learned about the experience of comprehensive community-based smoking cessation intervention in Yinchuan.
