A team headed by Daniel Dulitzky, regional director for Human Development in the East Asia and Pacific Region at the World Bank, met with Shen Hongbing, director-general of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), in Beijing on May 8.

In a gathering with experts of the China CDC, the World Bank team introduced the progress of the "One Health" research project currently being carried out in China, and expressed their willingness to seek cooperation with the China CDC.

Shen introduced the key tasks in the reform of China's disease control system, pointing out that infectious disease monitoring, early warning, multidisciplinary intervention and multisectoral collaboration are all important components of the "One Health" concept.

Noting that it is a strategic decision by the World Bank to launch the project in China, Shen said that the China CDC is willing to discuss cooperation in related fields with the World Bank, and to jointly promote the beneficial practice of the "One Health" concept and method in China.

The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on the "One Health" project and the cooperation mechanism between disease control institutions and grassroots medical and health institutions.
