National Training Workshop on the Prevention and Control of TB/HIV Co-infection Convenes in Beijing
From May 13 to 14, 2025, the National Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) organized a national training workshop focused on the prevention and control of TB/HIV co-infection in Beijing. Approximately 40 representatives from the CDCs of 31 provinces and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps attended the training.
At the opening ceremony, Dr. Zhao Yanlin, Director of the National Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention at China CDC, highlighted that addressing TB/HIV co-infection requires collaborative efforts from multiple sectors. He advocated for advancements in several key areas: enhancing interagency coordination mechanisms, reinforcing early detection strategies, standardizing treatment and management protocols, strengthening human-centered care, bolstering scientific research support, and expanding international cooperation initiatives. Dr. Lv Fan, Deputy Director of the National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention at China CDC, provided an overview of the historical development of HIV/AIDS prevention and control efforts in China. He pointed out that globally, approximately 8% of tuberculosis patients are co-infected with HIV. Although the co-infection rate in China remains relatively low, the disease burden contiunes to pose challenges, underscoring the need for sustained efforts to strengthen the integrated prevention and control measures for multiple diseases.
During the training, several renowned experts delivered comprehensive lectures on key aspects of TB/HIV prevention and control. The topics addressed encompassed strategic approaches, epidemiological trends, diagnostic technologies, clinical treatment protocols, and psychological intervention methodologies. Representatives from provinces such as Anhui and Guangxi presented detailed updates on local advancements and challenges in dual disease management. The training was distinguished by its systematic, practical, and operationally focused content. It substantially strengthened participants’ competencies in integrated program management and provided strong support for advancing TB/HIV co-infection prevention and control efforts, thereby contributing to the overarching goal of ending the tuberculosis epidemic.
