2025 National Tobacco Control Capacity-Building Workshop Successfully Held in Urumqi

From May 8 to 9th, 2025, the Tobacco Control Office of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) organized the 2025 National Tobacco Control Capacity-Building Workshop in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Nearly 100 participants attended the workshop, including provincial-level coordinators for smoking cessation interventions, specialists from smoking cessation clinics, and physicians from 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.

 

During the training, the Tobacco Control Office of China CDC provided an overview of recent developments in smoking cessation services both of national and worldwide, outlined the standardized procedures for establishing smoking cessation clinics, and offered practical training on the Smoking Cessation Clinic Data Management Subsystem. Experts from Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital of Zhejiang University, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and Beijing Chaoyang Hospital affiliated with Capital Medical University shared clinical perspectives on establishing cessation clinics and counseling techniques. In addition, representatives from the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Shanghai Municipality, and Hebei Province shared their provincial-level experiences in managing tobacco control efforts, offering valuable reference points for other regions.

 

The workshop enhanced the management awareness of provincial staff involved in smoking cessation interventions and improved the professional skills of physicians working in cessation clinics, laying a solid foundation for improving the quality of smoking cessation services nationwide.
