Director General Shen Hongbing Meets with Director of U.S. CDC China Program

On the morning of October 23, 2024, Prof. Shen Hongbing met with Dr. W. William Schluter, the outgoing Director of the U.S. CDC China Program, at the Changping campus. Director Shen expressed his gratitude for Dr. Schluter’s contributions to fostering collaboration between China CDC and U.S. CDC, and welcomed the newly appointed Deputy Director of the U.S. CDC China Program, Dr. Earl Bradbury.

 

During the meeting, Director Shen reviewed the achievements made from collaboration between China CDC and U.S. CDC, and emphasized that the close partnership between the two CDCs has not only contributed to the development of public health in both countries but has also made a positive impact on global public health security.

 

In recognition of Dr. Schluter’s contributions, Director Shen conferred upon him the title of “Honorary Advisor on Global Health of China CDC” and presented him with a certificate of appreciation. Dr. Schluter reflected on his three-year tenure in China, describing it as a period of invaluable experience and professional growth. He shared that, along with his efforts in promoting China-U.S. public health cooperation, he gained numerous professional partnerships and a deep appreciation for the expertise and dedication of his Chinese colleagues. Dr. Schluter expressed his confidence in the future of collaboration between China CDC and U.S. CDC. As a token of this successful cooperation, he presented Director Shen with a commemorative collection of co-authored articles published in China CDC Weekly and the U.S. CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), symbolizing the shared commitment to enhancing the quality and impact of China CDC Weekly. Dr. Bradbury affirmed his intention to further strengthen collaborative efforts with China CDC.

 

Director Shen expressed his hope that Dr. Schluter will continue to contribute to public health efforts in his new role at the U.S. CDC and conveyed his expectations for significant progress in the China-U.S. CDC program under Dr. Bradbury’s leadership.
