Prof. Shen Hongbing Meets with Prof. Anna Popova, Head of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing of Russia, and Her Delegation

On May 16, 2024, Prof. Shen Hongbing, Director General of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) met with the visiting delegation led by Prof. Anna Y. Popova, Head of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing of Russia, and Deputy Head, Prof. Vyacheslav Smolensky.

 

Prof. Shen Hongbing welcomed the delegation and reviewed the technical exchanges and cooperation between China CDC and relevant Russian health institutions since 2018. This cooperation includes jointly hosting six Sino-Russian Infectious Disease Seminars, timely sharing of prevention and control technologies and experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, and sending senior experts to participate in international academic conferences organized by the other side. Prof. Shen expressed his hope to further deepen cooperation with the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing of Russia in the field of infectious disease research and prevention, contributing to the health and well-being of the people of both countries. He also invited Russian experts to attend the Seventh Sino-Russian Infectious Disease Seminar, which will be held in Beijing in the fourth quarter of 2024.

 

Prof. Anna Y. Popova thanked Prof. Shen Hongbing for his introduction and praised the active exchanges and personnel interactions since the signing of the cooperation memorandum in 2020. She emphasized the importance of Sino-Russian public health cooperation given the long shared border and frequent personnel and trade exchanges. She specifically recalled the effective technical cooperation between Chinese and Russian experts in combating the COVID-19 pandemic and expressed hope to expand cooperation in more areas of mutual interest. Prof. Anna Y. Popova also warmly invited experts from the China CDC to conduct academic exchanges in Russia later this year.

 

Prof. Shen Hongbing and Prof. Anna Y. Popova also discussed future areas of cooperation.

After the meeting, Prof. Anna Y. Popova and Prof. Vyacheslav Smolensky visited the National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention at the China CDC. They received a briefing on the COVID-19 variant monitoring system and toured the National Influenza Center laboratory.
