China CDC conducts radiological health training and guidance in southern Xinjiang

National Institute for Radiological Protection,Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) dispatched an expert team to carry out radiological protection monitoring, professional training as well as surveys in Kashgar prefecture and Kizilsu Kirghiz autonomous prefecture in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region from July 10 to 15.

The team consists of 47 technical specialist from National Institute for Radiological Protection of China CDC, provincial CDCs from Shanghai, Jiangsu, Shandong, Chongqing, Sichuan, and Institute of Occupational Disease Prevention and Control of Guangdong province.

On July 11, a kick-off meeting was held in southern Xinjiang, gathering more than 70 officials, professionals, and radiological health workers different levels of health commissions, CDCs and assisted hospitals and no-medical institutions in Xinjiang .They discussed and exchanges information on radiological protection monitoring.

The experts team was divided into 12 working groups and went to 24 hospitals and institutions in 10 cities, counties, and townships in Kashgar prefecture and Kizilsu Kirghiz autonomous prefecture to carry out radiological protection monitoring, technical training and survey. They completed performance tests for 93 radiological diagnosis and treatment equipment and radiological protection inspections in 124 workplaces.

Zhang Hongyuan, director of the prevention division of the occupational health department of National Health Commission of China, and Liu Qingjie, deputy director of National Institute for Radiological Protection of China CDC conducted research and surveys at local enterprises and ports on the safe use of non-medical radiation devices, workplace radiation hazard monitoring, and employee health management.
