China CDC experts join emergency rescue team in Beijing's flood-hit areas

Heavy downpours brought by typhoon Doksuri inundated some districts in Beijing since July 29.

 

In a quick response to China's State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters' request, the National Institute of Environmental Health under Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) dispatched Sun Zongke and Duan Hongyang, both are public healthexperts, to help with the protection of public health in the wake of the torrential rains.  

 

They rushed to the front line of Beijing's Mentougou and Fangshan districts, two of the hardest-hit areas by the flood, on August 1, joining an expert team to guide the emergency rescue work.

 

On the same day, the expert team held a working meeting with the local government and the local public health authorities to decide on the best approaches and processes for the rescue efforts.

 

Through a newly cleared road, the two CDC experts got to one of the flood-hit areas and carried out sanitation and epidemic prevention work to ensure that drinking water was safe, and that temporary resettlement sites were disinfected.
