The eighth Walking with the World competition kicked off in Qingyang county of Anhui province on April 16. The event attracted some 20,000 participants and created a more relaxed and positive atmosphere for intensifying the national fitness campaign.

Initiated by the National Center for Chronic and Noncommunicable Disease Control and Prevention (NCNCD) of the China CDC, the annual walking competition also gained support from the National Health Commission.

Zhou Ling, deputy director of the Medical Emergency Department of the National Health Commission, said: "We need to promote the development of a chronic disease health management service system that covers the entire population and lifespan." He noted that the competition is a long-term event suitable for a wide range of people. It will inspire the whole society to develop a healthy lifestyle and achieve the goal of preventing chronic diseases.

Zhou Yuhui, deputy secretary of CPC Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) Committee, said the competition applied new internet technologies and motivated over 2 million people in over 1,400 districts and counties in China to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

This year, NCNCD will integrate physical exercises into medical care and create a collaborative model of "One Health".
