China and US CDCs hold teleconference on chronic disease prevention and control

A teleconference focusing on chronic disease prevention and control was held on Mar 20, 2023 Beijing time. A total of 30 experts from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) exchanged their views on the topic.
 
Experts from the US CDC introduced the cardiovascular disease monitoring system in the United States, which is based on various data sources, such as community based surveillance and surveys, healthcare systems, and vital statistics system. 
 
Experts from Resolve to Save Lives, an organization aiming to prevent at least 100 million deaths from cardiovascular disease and epidemics, shared the progress made by the Global HEARTS Initiative in managing hypertensive patients over the past five years (2017-2022).
 
China CDC experts outlined the Chinese registration system for acute cardiovascular events, including the background, categories of acute cardiovascular events included in the statistics, and data reporting. They also introduced China's work in the field of hypertension risk factor control from such aspects as salt reduction policies and programs. 
 
The two sides also conducted in-depth discussions on such issues as the US electronic health record system and data validity.
