China CDC held an opening ceremony for the 22nd Advanced FETP and the 8th Intermediate FETP

The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) held an opening ceremony for the 22nd cohort of the Advanced Chinese Field Epidemiology Training Program (Advanced FETP) and the 8th cohort of the Intermediate Field Epidemiology Training Program (Intermediate FETP) on Mar 1, 2023.
The ceremony, presided over by Liu Jianjun, deputy director of the China CDC and executive president of its graduate school, brought together about 100 participants, including mentors, graduates and newly enrolled trainees.

Shen Hongbing, director general of the China CDC, delivered a keynote speech entitled "keep going, keep fighting" in the opening ceremony. Shen warmly welcomed the newly enrolled trainees and encouraged them to carry forward the spirit of "keep going, keep fighting" by taking on responsibilities, facing challenges, be problem-oriented, taking practices as the foundation and pursuing excellence. He also encouraged the trainees to be actively engaged in the field work of public health, make each outcome into a high-quality product, and provide scientific suggestions for policy makers. He hopes one day the trainees would grow into the backbones of field epidemiology talents who are "ready to assemble at the first call and capable of fighting and winning".

Experts from the Public Health Emergency Center, the Division of Infectious Diseases, the National Institute for Viral Diseases Control and Prevention and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases Control and Prevention, introduced their vocational work and the training of trainees as the field bases.
The new trainees later visited the National Institute of Communicable Diseases Control and Prevention, one of the field bases, to have a first impression of the field bases by learning about its history.
Ma Huilai, vice-president of the CDC Graduate School and director of the Chinese Field Epidemiology Training Program (CFETP), presented the latest progress of CFETP in her report, focusing on its establishment, impact and future development.

Rrepresentatives from the 22nd Advanced FETP and the 8th Intermediate FETP talked of their expectations for the future in their speeches, vowing to attain personal and professional growth through "learning by doing".
Li Tao, deputy director of the Monitoring and Early-warning Department of the Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Center of China CDC, made a speech as a representative of the CFETP mentors. He recalled his journey from trainee to mentor and gave suggestions on the learning from the perspective of a mentor.
After the opening ceremony, Liu Jianjun gave a lecture titled "Learning at Work", discussing the philosophy of work and the wisdom of life with the trainees.
