The annual meeting between the directors of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) was held online on Jan 19, 2022 Beijing time.

Prof. George F. Gao, director general of the China CDC, pointed out that the two agencies have achieved remarkable results as long-term partners in the field of public health.

Gao hoped that the two CDCs will continue to jointly promote the cooperation among national public health institutions in the world, making positive efforts for the fight against COVID-19, and getting ready for possible global outbreaks in the future.

Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the US CDC, said “No one is safe until we all are.” She said that the US CDC will continue to work with China CDC, strengthening bilateral practical collaborations, including technical exchange and researches on disease control and prevention strategies.

Gao and Walensky also exchanged views on COVID-19 control and prevention, public health capacity building, global public health and FETP, and expressed their willingness to further explore potential collaborations in One Health.
