On July 15, 2024, Dr. Ted Chaiban, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), visited the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC). During the visit, Dr. Chaiban and Prof. Shen Hongbing, Director of China CDC, signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Prof. Shen Hongbing  highly recognized the health initiatives jointly undertaken by UNICEF and China CDC, and provided a brief overview of the reforms and developments within China's disease control system. He emphasized that China CDC consistently supports its experts in actively participating in UNICEF's cooperative projects and technical activities. The signing of the MoU, he noted, marks a significant milestone in their partnership and heralds a new chapter in global health cooperation.

Dr. Ted Chaiban expressed his gratitude to China CDC for its longstanding support of UNICEF's work. He stated that the signing of the MoU offers an exciting opportunity for closer collaboration. Under the MoU framework, UNICEF is committed to working closely with China CDC through training, personnel exchanges, and fundraising efforts to promote and coordinate support and assistance to African countries.
