On June 3, 2024, experts from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) assigned to the Sierra Leone Fixed Biosafety Laboratory were invited to participate in the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Development Planning Forum organized by the Sierra Leone National Public Health Agency.

In recent years, China CDC has collaborated deeply with Sierra Leone in the prevention and control of malaria, viral hepatitis, and  emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, which achieved significant results. These collaborations have not only supported the development of public health in Sierra Leone but have also delivered tangible benefits to the Sierra Leonean people.
Significantly, the China-Sierra Leone Friendship  Fixed Biosafety Laboratory handled nearly 40% of the country's testing tasks during the Ebola and COVID-19 outbreaks, playing a crucial role in combating the epidemics. China CDC also took a leading role in conducting epidemiological studies and developing prevention and control plans for viral hepatitis in Sierra Leone.

Dr. Wang Chao, a member of the expert team, expressed at the forum that HIV, viral hepatitis, malaria, and other emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases pose significant threats to the health of the Sierra Leonean people. Facing these challenges, the international society must unite to respond effectively and comprehensively to protectthe vulnerable groups and ensure regional stability. China CDC will continue to deepen its public health collaboration with Sierra Leone, aiding in enhancing the country's public health system, improving health conditions, and collaboratively halting the unchecked spread of infectious diseases like HIV, malaria, and viral hepatitis in Sierra Leone.
