The second Series of the "Belt and Road" Tropical Disease Prevention and Public Health Practice Forum lecture series, jointly organized by the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases (National Center for Tropical Diseases Research) of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) and the School of Global Health at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, was successfully held at the Institute on May 6, 2024. Director Li Shizhu and Secretary Cao Jianping of the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases attended the event, along with other researchers and graduate students.

The lecture featured two keynote speakers from the School of Global Health: Researcher Zhang Xiaoxi and Researcher Yin Kun. Zhang Xiaoxi presented on "One Health Performance Evaluation," providing a detailed overview of research on performance evaluation of the One Health system. This included the construction of the One Health Index, simulation modeling studies, and progress made at the One Health theoretical base pilot in Chongming as well as in real-world research. Yin Kun's presentation, titled "Pathogen Point-of-Care Testing Based on Microfluidics and Molecular Diagnostics," introduced his team's research achievements in isothermal amplification technology, microfluidic chip technology, CRISPR/Cas technology, and handheld pathogen detection platforms. He also discussed the potential applications of these technologies in detecting other pathogens. This lecture series is part of the fifth anniversary celebration of the School of Global Health, jointly established by the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases (National Center for Tropical Diseases Research) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. The aim is to explore and share the latest research findings and experiences in tropical disease prevention and public health practice, promoting the development of the discipline.

The forum is held every Monday for six consecutive weeks, with two lectures each week, conducted both online and offline. The first session was held on April 29 at the School of Global Health at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Researchers Hu Yuan and Yin Jianhai from the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases gave special lectures on "Mechanism of Liver Fibrosis in Hosts Infected with Schistosoma japonicum" and "Challenges in Preventing Malaria Reintroduction and Spread," respectively.
