The First plenary meeting of the Environmental Health Standards Committee under National Standard Committee for Disease Control and Prevention was Successfully Held in Beijing

On December 21, 2023, the first plenary meeting of the Environmental Health Standards Committee under the National Standard Committee for Disease Control and Prevention(NSCDC)(hereinafter referred to as EHSC) was held in Beijing, along with the 2023 annual standard review session.

 

Gu Jingyu, Director of the Regulations and Laws Division of Department of Planning, Finance, and Regulations of the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration (NDCPA), Ji Yongcai, Director of the Environmental Health and Endemic Disease Control Division of Department of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control , Duan Yabo, Director of the Public Places and School Health Supervision of Department of Comprehensive Supervision Ⅱ, Fei Jia, Director of the Drinking Water Health Supervision Division, Shi Xiaoming, Deputy Director General of China CDC and Chair of the Environmental Health Standards Professional Committee, Lei Suwen, Director of the Standards Division of China CDC, and Wang Lin, Director of National Institute of Environmental Health, China CDC (NIEH) attended and spoke at the meeting. Yao Xiaoyuan, Party Secretary of NIEH as well as Vice Chair and General Secretary  of the Committee, chaired the meeting.

Director Gu Jingyu emphasized the need to thoroughly understand and learn from the speeches at the NSCDC's founding conference. He stressed that establishing the EHSC and doing a good job in environmental health standards are crucial for advancing high-quality development in disease control and environmental health. Furthermore, he urged committee members to rigorously adhere to the guidelines of the "NSCDC Charter," strengthen capacity building, and earnestly implement work responsibilities. Directors Duan Yabo, Ji Yongcai, and Fei Jia made further requirements to the EHSC regarding health supervision, public places, and drinking water sanitation. They emphasized that upholding a scientific, democratic, and innovation-oriented approach is responsive to needs, urged the EHSC to effectively lead through setting standards.  Director Lei Suwen reviewed the achievements of the EHSC, strengthened the integration of standards with practical applications, requested members to ensure technical quality control and guidance, and enhance the overall quality of standards. Director Wang Lin, representing the secretariat's hosting organization of the Environmental Health Standards Committee, expressed gratitude for the trust and support of NDCPA. He required the secretariat to strictly implement standard management rules to ensure the quality and efficiency of the Committee work. Shi introduced the composition of the new EHSC, stressed the duty of members and advisors to fulfill their roles diligently, thereby providing better service and professional support to the fields of disease control and environmental health.

During the meeting, the first Environmental Health Standards Committee reviewed and reached a consensus on Emergency Water Supply Sanitary Standards for Sudden Drinking Water Pollution Incidents and other 3 standards.

 

More than 50 participants attended the meeting, including officials from NDCPA, China CDC, members of the EHSC, and representatives of the standards drafting groups.
