China CDC rolls into action to support post-quake epidemic prevention work
The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) sent an expert team to the earthquake-hit zones in Gansu and Qinghai provinces to carry out post-disaster epidemic prevention and control work.
A magnitude 6.2 earthquake hit Jishishan county, Linxia Hui autonomous prefecture in Gansu, late on Dec 18, 2023, causing heavy loss.
At noon on Dec 19, a five-member expert team led by Li Qun, deputy director-general of China CDC, rushed to the earthquake-stricken areas in Gansu and Qinghai to guide work related to infectious diseases prevention and control , water sanitation, and environmental disinfection, according to the request of the National Administration of Disease Prevention and Control (NADPC).
Right after the earthquake hit, the center had quickly contacted the Gansu provincial CDC to learn about the situation and the main needs of the disaster area, get the public health emergency response expert team ready to release, along with the logistical support well prepared.
At the same time, relevant departments of the center swiftly conducted public health risk assessments for the disaster-hit areas, which reported to NADPC for post-quake field epidemic prevention and control decision making.
