China CDC holds training class for COPD monitoring and comprehensive prevention and control

To improve the comprehensive capacity of disease control and prevention systems at all levels, the National Center for Chronic and Noncommunicable Disease Control and Prevention (NCNCD) of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) held an online training class for preventing and controlling chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD) from Aug 18 to 19.

 

More than 5,000 people including medical staff from disease prevention and control centers, healthcare centers and medical institutions at different levels across the country participated in the training class. Wu Jing, director of the NCNCD, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. 

At the training class, Fang Liwen, director of the department of respiratory disease prevention and control of the NCNCD and Cong Shu, an associate researcher of the same office, gave lectures on the diagnosis, treatment, intervention, and management of COPD patients in China and the comprehensive monitoring and prevention intervention program of COPD respectively.

 

Professor Wang Linhong, chief expert on chronic and noncommunicable diseases of the China CDC, and professor Kan Haidong, associate dean of the School of Public Health of Fudan University, shared relevant knowledge of prevention and control of chronic respiratory diseases during the pandemic and the research on the environmental and chronic respiratory diseases.

 

Ding Xianbin, director of the Institute of chronic and noncommunicable diseases of Chongqing CDC, shared the working experience of information monitoring and management of COPD diseases based on big data. Professor Chen Yahong, associate director of the department of respiratory and critical care medicine of Peking University Third Hospital, professor Xiao Dan from China-Japan Friendship Hospital, and experts from other medical institutions gave lectures on progress in early COPD research, guidance on smoking cessation, the establishment and application of the COPD risk assessment model and management of asthma.

  

The department of respiratory disease prevention and control of the NCNCD designs training courses on the prevention and control of chronic respiratory diseases annually based on the national continuing medical education program. It aims to improve the comprehensive monitoring capability of national disease control and prevention systems for COPD and the capability in chronic respiratory disease prevention and control, promote comprehensive monitoring including the monitoring of prevalence and risk factors of COPD, the registration and reporting of COPD cases, the monitoring and management of high-risk groups and community patients, and push forward comprehensive interventions at the community level for chronic respiratory diseases such as COPD and asthma.

 

This training provided rich knowledge considering medical staff's needs, greatly expanded comprehensive prevention and control ideas for chronic respiratory diseases during the COVID-19 pandemic and improved the staff's professional and scientific research capacities. The training was widely praised by the trainees.
