George F. Gao elected as Foreign Member of the Royal Society

Professor George F. Gao, director-general of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, was recently elected as a Foreign Member of the Royal Society.
 
Professor Gao is mainly engaged in research on cross-host transmission of pathogenic microorganisms, infection mechanisms and host cell immunity, as well as in research on public health policies and global health strategies. His team has made important contributions to the basic understanding of emerging infectious diseases and the development of vaccines, antibodies and other products.
 
The Royal Society announced the list of new academicians on May 10, 2022. The 51 Fellows and 10 Foreign Members along with one Honorary Fellow were selected for their outstanding contributions to science.
