Exchange seminar on tuberculosis-free community construction opens in Beijing

On Oct 31, 2023, the Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) held an experience exchange and expert seminar on tuberculosis-free community construction in Beijing.
 
Over 40 participants, including project leaders from 18 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government), attended the event.
 
Yan Jun, deputy director-general of the China CDC, and Zhao Yanlin, director of the Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention of the China CDC, attended the opening ceremony and emphasized the importance of tuberculosis-free communities constructing and the phased goals proposed by the United Nations High-Level Meeting on End TB.
 
During the event, Dr. Chen Zhongdan, representative of the World Health Organization in China, emphasized the importance of expanding preventive treatment for tuberculosis to eradicating the disease; Xu Caihong, director of the Comprehensive Intervention Department of Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention, provided a detailed introduction to the background and specific requirements of the design for tuberculosis-free communities construction; Cheng Jun, director of the Key Population Control and Prevention Department of Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention, presented the progress made in the construction of tuberculosis-free communities nationwide.
 
Furthermore, the 18 provinces also shared their progress and experience in carrying out diverse activities for the construction of tuberculosis-free communities based on local conditions.
 
The convening of this seminar is expected to further promote the construction of tuberculosis-free communities nationwide, driving towards the goal of End TB.
