Standardization-Themed Publicity Event for World Standards Day 2026, Focusing on Health and Disease Prevention and Control, Held in Ningbo
The standardization-themed publicity event for World Standards Day 2026, focusing on health and disease prevention and control, was held in Ningbo on October 13. Guided by the Department of Laws and Regulations of the National Health Commission and the Department of Planning, Finance and Law and Regulation of the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, the event was hosted by China CDC (Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine), co-organized by the National Institute of Environmental Health of China CDC, the Zhejiang Provincial CDC, the Ningbo Municipal CDC, and the Yinzhou District CDC, and supported by the Village Committee of Wandi Village, Xiaying Subdistrict, Yinzhou District. The theme of the event was "Standards Safeguard Health and Safety." Zhang Xinwei, Director of the Zhejiang Provincial CDC, delivered a welcome address at the launching ceremony, which was presided over by Bian Guolin, Director of the Ningbo Municipal CDC.
Dr. Shi Xiaoming, Deputy Director (Vice President) of China CDC (Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine) and Chair of the Environmental Health Standards Subcommittee of the National Committee on Standards for Disease Control and Prevention, attended the event and delivered a keynote speech. He pointed out that standards are the technical backbone supporting the high-quality development of disease prevention and control, and that standardization should be regarded as a foundational project for building CDC capacity, with standards embedded into every aspect of CDC work, including testing, monitoring, early warning, assessment, and emergency response. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, nearly 80 percent of environmental health standards were revised, achieving a reduction in quantity while improving quality; the standards now cover livelihood areas such as drinking water hygiene requirements, indoor air quality, and public place sanitation; and the first English version of a national environmental health standard went abroad. He stressed that, looking ahead to the 15th Five-Year Plan, efforts should focus on the theme of "Standards Safeguard Health and Safety," accelerate the supply of key standards, pursue the health-priority development strategy, promote the shift of health management from passive response to proactive prevention, and help Chinese standards go global, making new and greater contributions to the building of a Healthy China.
At the event, three experts from the National Institute of Environmental Health of China CDC — Director Wang Lin, Researcher Pan Lijun, and Associate Researcher Zhao Can — gave presentations on standards related to hand hygiene, health protection against thunderstorm asthma, and sanitary requirements for drinking water, respectively. The event also featured on-site consultations, a knowledge quiz, hand hygiene demonstrations, and a hands-on experience session on rapid turbidity testing of drinking water, encouraging the whole of society to pay attention to, participate in, and implement standards together.
