Director Wang Jianwei Meets GSK Chairman Sir Jonathan Symonds and His Delegation

On September 10, 2026, Wang Jianwei, Director of China CDC and President of the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine (CAPM), met with Sir Jonathan Symonds, Chairman of the Board of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), in Beijing. The two sides held in-depth discussions on immunization programs, hepatitis B prevention and control, and chronic disease prevention and control. Yin Zundong, Deputy Director of China CDC and Vice President of CAPM, attended the meeting.

Director Wang extended a warm welcome to Sir Jonathan and his delegation. He noted that China CDC and GSK have a solid foundation for cooperation. China CDC is continuing to improve its surveillance and early-warning network for infectious diseases and public health emergencies, steadily enhance its emergency response capabilities, and advance the modernization of the disease control and prevention system. He expressed the hope that the two sides will build on their respective strengths and work together to improve people’s health and well-being and contribute to the building of a global community of health for all.

Sir Jonathan said that China CDC’s achievements in disease prevention and control, public health system development, and global health cooperation are remarkable and highly impressive. GSK stands ready to further deepen exchanges and cooperation with China CDC and jointly support the advancement of public health in China.

The meeting was attended by heads of relevant departments and senior experts from the National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention, the National Center for Chronic and Noncommunicable Disease Control and Prevention, and the Center for National Immunization Program of China CDC. The two sides agreed to adhere to the principle of putting prevention first and integrating prevention with treatment, strengthen mutual exchanges and learning, and work together to achieve more tangible outcomes in public health cooperation.
