China CDC and NUS Sign Cooperation MOU

On September 4, 2026, Wang Jianwei, Director of China CDC, and Teo Yik Ying, Vice President (Global Health) of the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Dean of the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, jointly signed an inter-institutional Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Singapore, witnessed by delegations from both institutions.
In his remarks, Director Wang noted that the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health at NUS has distinctive strengths in infectious disease modeling and surveillance, in providing evidence to inform national public health decision-making, in international scientific collaboration, and in the training of high-caliber professionals. He stated that the signing of the MOU marks a major milestone in acting on the two sides' shared understanding and advancing practical cooperation. He expressed the hope that both institutions will leverage their respective strengths to deepen collaboration in areas such as antimicrobial resistance surveillance, infectious disease modeling and forecasting, and the joint training of public health professionals, thereby contributing their expertise to building a global community of health for all.
Dean Teo warmly welcomed Director Wang and his delegation. He noted that China CDC is an important partner of the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, and that both sides share common responsibilities in global health governance. He stated that the School looks forward to taking the signing of the MOU as an opportunity to fully leverage its platforms, including the Infectious Disease Modeling Center and its global multi-partner research network, to deepen collaboration in areas of mutual interest and contribute to regional public health security.
The two sides also reached preliminary consensus on specific topics, including the role of infectious disease modeling in informing prevention and control policies, the effectiveness of wastewater surveillance for the early warning of infectious diseases and for informing policy responses, as well as exchange visits by young professionals and the joint training of graduate students.
The signing will inject new momentum into China–Singapore public health cooperation and support the strengthening of regional public health governance capacity.
