2026 First Tuan Shan Symposium on Public Health Talent Development Held in Beijing

On August 24, the First Tuan Shan Symposium on Public Health Talent Development, hosted by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine), was held in Beijing. Shen Hongbing, Vice Minister of the National Health Commission, Director of the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended the meeting and delivered a report. Gao Bin, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, and Yu Qiurong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Science and Education, National Health Commission, attended the meeting and delivered remarks. Wang Jianwei, Director (President) of the Center (Academy) and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered an address. Zhang Guoxin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Center (Academy), presided over the opening ceremony.

Shen Hongbing delivered a keynote report on the 15th Five-Year Plan for disease prevention and control and the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent. He systematically elaborated on the significance, overall framework, and key priorities of high-quality development for the disease prevention and control cause during the 15th Five-Year Plan period. He also presented the achievements and measures in the integrated advancement of education, science and technology, and talent in the disease control field. He emphasized the need to stay focused on the goal of high-quality development, continue deepening the reform of the CDC system, accelerate the enhancement of core capabilities, build a strong talent workforce, and strengthen scientific and technological innovation.

At the meeting, Academician Wu Tangchun, Professor Feng Zijian, and Professor Hu Zhibin each delivered a keynote report. Representatives from selected universities and disease prevention and control institutions gave exchange presentations. Experts held a roundtable discussion on strengthening the integration of industry and education and the convergence of science and education, as well as on cultivating high-level public health talents.

Wang Jianwei delivered a keynote report on competency-oriented public health talent cultivation and gave a concluding speech. He emphasized the need to adhere to a competency-oriented approach, take pragmatic cooperation between both the supply and demand sides as the key lever, strengthen medical-education synergy, promote the precise alignment of talent cultivation with industry needs, and build a solid talent foundation for the high-quality development of the public health cause.

Responsible officials from relevant departments of the National Health Commission, the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, and the Ministry of Education; leading officials from CDCs of all provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities), the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and cities with independent planning status; responsible officials from affiliated institutes and relevant functional departments of the Center (Academy); responsible officials from public health schools of relevant universities; and relevant experts attended the meeting.
