Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone Inspects China-Sierra Leone Friendship Fixed Biosafety Laboratory

On July 26, 2026, Feng Kai, Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone, and Liu Ji’ao visited the China-Sierra Leone Friendship Fixed Biosafety Laboratory for an inspection. Wang Yanhai of the Phase IV Project Team accompanied the visit and delivered a comprehensive briefing on the laboratory’s development history, functional positioning, and current major tasks, focusing on the progress of the Phase IV cooperation project.

Secretary Feng Kai gave specific instructions on the laboratory’s operational management and capacity building. He emphasized that safe operation is a prerequisite for all scientific research and cooperation activities at the laboratory. He called for further strengthening daily electrical safety monitoring and hazard identification and remediation to ensure comprehensive coverage of both biosafety and physical security. He also noted that management procedures should be optimized in light of local realities, drawing on the operation and maintenance experience of similar projects undertaken by other countries in Sierra Leone. He further stressed the importance of strengthening on-site mentoring and supervision for Sierra Leonean technical personnel in safe operations and emergency response, so as to ensure the laboratory’s long-term, stable, efficient, and safe operation.

The Chinese aid expert team in Sierra Leone stated that it will strictly follow the Embassy’s requirements, resolutely uphold the safety bottom line, steadily advance the tasks of the Phase IV project, and continuously consolidate the achievements in China-Sierra Leone public health cooperation.
