China CDC Dispatches Third Team to Uganda for Ebola Response

On July 15, 2026, China CDC dispatched two public health experts—Dr. An Zhijie and Dr. Wang Huanyu—to Uganda as part of its third expert deployment for Ebola response.

At the joint invitation of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), the two experts have joined the Incident Management Support Team (IMST) based in Kampala. They will provide expertise in epidemiological surveillance and laboratory capacity building, while coordinating closely with the Chinese Medical Team in Uganda to deliver infection prevention and control guidance and training to Chinese nationals and enterprises operating in the country.

Zhang Guoxin, Party Secretary of the China CDC, bid farewell to the experts at the airport. He urged them to adhere to strict personal protective protocols, integrate swiftly into the multilateral cooperation framework, and exemplify the professionalism of China CDC through their expertise. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining close communication with headquarters and sharing timely updates on the epidemic situation and operational developments.

Secretary Zhang affirmed that the Center will spare no effort to provide robust support from headquarters. He expressed confidence that they would fulfill their mission with distinction and return home safely.

Officials from the Department of Science, Education and International Cooperation of the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, the International Exchange Center of the National Health Commission, as well as the Office of International Cooperation, Public Health Emergency Center (PHEC), Center for National Immunization Program, and National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention of the China CDC were also present to see them off.
