On July 15, 2026, Zhang Yong, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration (NDCPA), led a delegation to the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases (NIPD) of China CDC, also known as the National Center for Tropical Diseases Research (NCTDR), for an inspection and guidance visit. He also chaired a symposium and delivered a speech.

During the visit, Deputy Director Zhang toured the National Reference Laboratory for Parasitic Diseases, the instrumentation platform of the Key Laboratory of Parasitic Pathogen and Vector Biology, and the Parasite and Vector Specimen Bank to review their development. He then listened to a work report from NIPD and held discussions with the institute’s leadership and heads of relevant departments.

Deputy Director Zhang spoke highly of NIPD’s historical contributions to the nationwide control and elimination of major parasitic diseases. He encouraged the institute to actively explore a coordinated transformation and business expansion path, shifting its focus from parasitic diseases to tropical diseases and from a domestic to an international orientation. He emphasized the need to proactively secure multi-source scientific and technological project resources at both the national and local levels, thereby promoting and enhancing the institute’s scientific and technological innovation capabilities.

Furthermore, he urged the institute to uphold sound principles while pursuing innovation. By leveraging various regional cooperation mechanisms and integrating existing international networks and exchange platforms for tropical diseases, the institute should introduce new cooperation mechanisms and play a greater role in advancing international cooperation in public health. He also stressed the importance of further clarifying the roles and responsibilities of the Hainan Branch of the NCTDR, improving its joint construction, joint management, and support mechanisms, and accelerating the development of its core business.

Shi Ying, Director of the Department of Science, Education, and International Cooperation of the NDCPA, accompanied the delegation during the visit.
