Deputy Director Sun Yang of the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration Attends China CDC’s July 2026 Risk Assessment Meeting

On the morning of July 3, 2026, China CDC convened the National Monthly Risk Assessment Meeting on Communicable Diseases and Public Health Emergencies for July 2026. Representatives from all 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities), the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and selected municipal and county-level CDCs attended. Sun Yang, Deputy Director of the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, and Wang Jianwei, Director of China CDC (President of the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine), attended the meeting. They were joined by Hu Xiang, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Monitoring and Early Warning, and Zhang Hongbin, Director of the General Office, both from the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration; Liu Qiyong, Chief Vector Expert at China CDC; and directors of key departments including the Public Health Emergency Center, Division of Infectious Diseases, Center for National Immunization Program, Center for Global Public Health, National Institute for Communicable Disease Control and Prevention, National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention, and National Institute for Occupational Health and Poison Control.

Relevant departments reported on domestic and international epidemic trends and public health emergencies over the past month. They discussed seasonal diseases including dengue fever and chikungunya, emerging infectious diseases such as Ebola virus disease, toxic mushroom poisoning, and post-disaster health response. The China Customs Science and Technology Research Center reported on recent surveillance of imported infectious diseases at national ports. Liu Qiyong, Chief Vector Expert, and department directors provided on-site comments on the assessment topics. Based on these reports, participants assessed July 2026 risks and proposed targeted prevention and control measures.

Wang Jianwei outlined six priorities for risk management: first, strengthen risk awareness and early detection of emerging threats; second, maintain strict border controls against known risks; third, focus on preventing seasonal diseases with targeted recommendations; fourth, enhance inter-agency coordination through joint prevention and control mechanisms; fifth, ensure emergency preparedness including drills and supplies; sixth, step up public health education to promote healthy lifestyles.

Sun Yang commended the monthly assessment mechanism as vital for national disease control guidance. He called for further standardization of risk assessment procedures and emphasized the need to strengthen community-level health communication alongside seasonal disease prevention.
