On the morning of June 9, 2026, Liu Yufen, Acting Deputy Director of the National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention (NCAIDS) under the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), met with a delegation from the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). The delegation was led by Mr. Jaime, Director of the Sustainable Development Division, and Ms. Peter, Senior Advisor of the Regional Support Team for Eastern and Southern Africa. They were joined by officials and experts from relevant NCAIDS departments, including the Information Exchange and Cooperation Office.

Deputy Director Liu extended a warm welcome to Mr. Jaime and Ms. Peter. During the meeting, NCAIDS experts provided an overview of China's HIV/AIDS prevention and control framework, outlining key policy strategies and highlighting significant progress in surveillance and testing, prevention and treatment. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on sharing China's practical experiences, promoting the localization of global HIV-related health products, and assisting African nations in building resilient and sustainable HIV response systems.

The UNAIDS officials commended China's valuable expertise in HIV/AIDS information management systems, the domestic production and supply of antiretroviral drugs and testing reagents, and methadone maintenance treatment, underscoring its relevance as a model for other developing countries. They expressed their hope that NCAIDS would continue to actively support capacity-building initiatives in Africa by sharing its experiences and technical know-how.
