In the early hours of June 2, 2026, two public health experts dispatched by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), Research Fellow Yu Wenzhou and Research Fellow Xu Ke, departed from Beijing Capital International Airport as members of the first batch of China’s anti-epidemic medical team to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Together with other experts, they will support local Ebola prevention and control efforts and promote cooperation with local medical and disease control institutions alongside the Chinese medical team in the DRC. The expert group will also conduct training on epidemic prevention and treatment for local medical institutions, the Chinese medical team, Chinese embassies and consulates, Chinese enterprises, and overseas Chinese citizens.

Wang Jianwei, Director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, went to the airport to see off the two public health experts. Shaking hands warmly with the team members, Director Wang urged them to prioritize their safety while in Africa, carry forward the spirit of hard work and solidarity, and wished them every success in completing their foreign aid mission. Relevant heads from the General Office, the Division of International Affairs, the Emergency Response Center, the National Immunization Program, and the National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention of China CDC also attended the farewell ceremony at the airport.
