Gates Foundation Experts Visit China CDC

On the morning of April 22, 2026, Wang Jianwei, Director of the China CDC, met with a delegation from the Gates Foundation at the Changping campus. The delegation was led by Zhi-Jie Zheng, Chief Representative of the Gates Foundation’s Beijing Representative Office, and Dr. Refiloe Matji, Deputy Director for Tuberculosis at the Gates Foundation. Heads of relevant departments from China CDC’s Center for Global Public Health, National Immunization Program, National Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention, and Office of International Cooperation attended the meeting.

Director Wang welcomed Chief Representative Zheng, Deputy Director Matji and their delegation. He reviewed the long-standing cooperation between China CDC and the Gates Foundation, noting that with support from the Foundation, the two sides have achieved fruitful results in infectious disease prevention and control, immunization programs, and global health. He said the China-Gates Tuberculosis Project, in particular, has provided important support for strengthening China’s tuberculosis prevention and control capacity, and has also contributed valuable Chinese experience to global TB prevention and control.

Director Wang said the two sides could build on their existing cooperation and expand collaboration in more areas, working together to advance global public health. Chief Representative Zheng spoke highly of China CDC’s achievements and said the Foundation was willing to further deepen the partnership and work with China CDC to address global health challenges. Deputy Director Matji said she would continue to support the China-Gates TB Project and contribute to improving China’s public health capacity and promoting global health equity.

After the meeting, the Gates Foundation delegation held in-depth discussions with experts from the National Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention on the progress, work plans, and future priorities of the China-Gates TB Project.
