Director Wang Jianwei Meets with Dr. Jeanette Rainey, Acting Director of the U.S. CDC China Program

On the morning of May 7, 2026, Wang Jianwei, Director of China CDC, met with Dr. Jeanette Rainey, Acting Director of the U.S. CDC China Program, at the Changping campus of China CDC. Dr. Rainey is soon to complete her posting in China and return to the United States. Director Wang thanked her for her contributions to advancing cooperation between China CDC and the U.S. CDC, and presented her with a certificate of appreciation. Dr. Earl Bradbury, Deputy Director of the U.S. CDC China Program, also attended the meeting. Heads or experts from major partner departments, including the Office of International Cooperation, the Editorial Office, the Office of Epidemiology, the Center for Global Public Health, the Department of Infectious Diseases, and the National Institute for Communicable Disease Control and Prevention, were present.

Director Wang reviewed the more than four decades of cooperation between China CDC and the U.S. CDC, noting that the two sides have achieved fruitful results in infectious disease prevention and control. During Dr. Rainey’s two postings in China, she worked with China CDC on practical cooperation in infectious disease surveillance, field epidemiology training, One Health, and other areas. Her rigorous approach and dedication helped promote exchanges between the two sides. Director Wang wished Dr. Rainey every success in her new role after her return to the United States, and expressed the hope that she would continue to serve as a bridge for further cooperation.

Dr. Rainey said that her two postings in China had been highly rewarding. She expressed deep admiration for the professionalism and dedication of her Chinese colleagues, and said she was confident about the future cooperation between China CDC and the U.S. CDC. Dr. Bradbury said he would continue to support technical exchanges between the two technical teams. The two sides then held a discussion on current challenges and future directions for cooperation.
