Internationally Renowned Radiation Protection Expert Professor Chen Jing Visits the National Institute for Radiological Protection for Academic Exchange
On April 13, 2026, the National Institute for Radiological Protection, China CDC, invited internationally renowned radiation protection expert Professor Chen Jing for an academic exchange. Professor Chen previously served as Vice-Chair of the 66th, 67th and 68th sessions of the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation, and as Chair of the 69th and 70th sessions. She has devoted decades to the fields of external and internal dosimetry, microdosimetry, radiation protection and management, radiation health risk assessment, and the environmental effects of radiation, and is held in very high regard internationally.
The academic exchange was chaired by Director Liu Qingjie and attended by Deputy Directors Tuo Fei and Yin Zhaoxue. Director Liu warmly welcomed Professor Chen and expressed sincere respect for her outstanding contributions to radiation protection both in China and abroad. Staff from the Radiation Protection Division reported to Professor Chen on China’s radon level monitoring work, and Professor Chen provided guidance on future directions and work plans.
Afterward, Professor Chen delivered a report to institute staff and graduate students titled Inheriting the Dedication of the Older Generation of Scientists and Working Hard to Carry Out Radiation Protection Work in a Solid and Effective Way. In her report, she introduced the life and work of Professor Li Deping, shared data from the latest reports of the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation, and looked ahead to the global outlook for radiation and its health effects. She stressed that to do radiation protection work well and make it truly effective, and to advance the vision of “One World, One Protection”, efforts must be made to implement the optimization of protection, use effective resources in a rational way, and maximize the net benefit to social health and well-being. Researchers attending the report spoke actively and engaged in exchanges and discussion with Professor Chen. The event had a strong academic atmosphere.
