China CDC and Fondation Mérieux Deepen Cooperation to Advance Global Public Health

On the afternoon of March 25, 2025, Wang Jianwei, Director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, met with Ms. Marie Engel and her delegation at the Changping Campus. Ms. Engel is Director International & Laboratories at Fondation Mérieux.

Director Wang reviewed the achievements of the two sides over many years of cooperation, including three rounds of tuberculosis prevention and control projects, the joint organization of an international seminar on Ebola, and the establishment of the Mérieux Youth Scholarship. He said that Fondation Mérieux has long been committed to public health and has supported China in scientific research collaboration and talent development in infectious disease prevention and control. This is a vivid example of China France friendship and of the vision of building a global community of health for all. He expressed the hope that the two sides would further promote the close integration of scientific and technological innovation with disease prevention and control practice, extend the results of their cooperation to other developing countries, and contribute to global public health.

Ms. Engel said that China is an important partner of Fondation Mérieux. The two sides have worked successfully together for more than 20 years in areas such as tuberculosis control and the prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases, setting an example for international cooperation. She spoke highly of China’s expertise and experience in infectious disease prevention and control, and said that Fondation Mérieux would carry forward the strong tradition of cooperation, expand cooperation resources, promote successful experience in more countries, and work together to contribute to global public health security.

Members of the Fondation Mérieux delegation and experts from the National Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention held in depth exchanges on the progress of tuberculosis prevention and control projects, implementation plans, and future directions for cooperation.

Those attending the meeting included François Satré, International Advisor to Fondation Mérieux, Gabriel Pedone, Deputy Director International Operations & Laboratories, and Liao Qizhi, Chief Representative in China, as well as responsible officials from the National Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention and the Foreign Affairs Office of China CDC.
