2026 World Tuberculosis Day Theme Publicity Event Successfully Held in Beijing

On the morning of March 21, 2026, ahead of the 31st World Tuberculosis Day, the 2026 World Tuberculosis Day Theme Publicity Event was successfully held at the studio of the People’s Daily Health Client. The theme of this year’s event was “Comprehensive Action, Full Commitment, Whole of Society Participation, End Tuberculosis.” More than 120 people attended the event, including representatives from the Department of Disease Control and Prevention of the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine), the China Health Education Center, the China Antituberculosis Association, the China Association for the Prevention and Control of STD and AIDS, and the People’s Daily Health Client, as well as leading officials and representatives from Provincial tuberculosis prevention and control institutions across the country, representatives of relevant institutions and international organizations, experts, scholars, and volunteers.

Liu Qing, Deputy Director General of the Department of Disease Control and Prevention of the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, Zhang Guoxin, Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director General of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine), and Wu Jing, Deputy Director of the China Health Education Center who is presiding over the work, attended the event and delivered remarks. Dr. Tereza Kasaeva, Director of the WHO Global Tuberculosis, HIV, Hepatitis and STDs Programme, sent greetings and best wishes by video.

Experts from tuberculosis prevention and control institutions and primary health care institutions in Chongqing, Jiangsu, Henan, and other places were invited to take part in an interactive interview session titled “Appointment for Development.” The event also specially invited grassroots experts from Chaza Township, Ganzi County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, and from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Tashkurgan Tajik Autonomous County, Kashgar Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, to share moving stories of their commitment to tuberculosis prevention and control on the plateau and their dedicated service to local people.

Representatives of relevant institutions from Beijing, Hubei, Chongqing, Anhui, Sichuan, and Tianjin gave creative science popularization presentations.

The 15th Five Year Plan period will be a crucial five years for China to build itself into a great modern socialist country in all respects and realize the Second Centenary Goal. It will also be a pivotal five years for comprehensively advancing the Healthy China initiative and building a strong public health system. All those engaged in tuberculosis prevention and control will remain focused on the goal of ending the tuberculosis epidemic and the goal of building Healthy China, strengthen the health shield through concrete actions, and press ahead toward a brighter tuberculosis free future.
