The 2026 Editorial Board Meeting of Biomedical and Environmental Sciences Successfully Held
To further enhance the academic quality and international influence of the journal and to support scholarly exchange in the field of public health, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, which is also known as Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, convened the 2026 editorial board meeting of its English-language journal Biomedical and Environmental Sciences (BES) on January 29, 2026. BES Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Director (Vice President) of the Center, Researcher Xiao-Ming Shi, attended the meeting, along with more than 90 editorial board members participating through a combination of online and in-person attendance to provide guidance and suggestions for the journal’s high-quality development. The meeting was chaired by Director Chi-Hong Zhao of the Academic Publishing Administration Office.
The meeting began with a report by Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Director of the Editorial Office, Researcher Qun Zhang, on BES’s publishing performance in 2025, progress in enhancing academic impact, and plans for the next steps. Editorial board members, focusing on the forefront of the discipline and international trends in scholarly publishing, engaged in in-depth discussions on core development topics, including topic planning, expansion of high-quality submissions, optimization of the peer review process, and international collaboration. They provided a series of highly targeted and actionable recommendations, emphasizing the need to concentrate on key areas of population health, strengthen special-topic solicitation, and further elevate the journal’s academic leadership.
In his concluding remarks, Editor-in-Chief Xiao-Ming Shi fully acknowledged the active contributions of the board members and the achievements BES made in 2025. He emphasized that the journal’s development should be guided by national public health strategic priorities while upholding the highest standards of academic quality. The BES editorial and publishing team will systematically review and integrate the recommendations from this meeting, optimize journal management mechanisms, deepen international collaboration, and strive to establish BES as a first-class English-language journal with significant international influence in the field of public health.
