China CDC’s National Institute for Radiological Protection Publishes Chinese Translation of Operational Quantities for External Radiation Exposure

Recently, the National Institute for Radiological Protection, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) organized the translation and publication of the Chinese edition of ICRU Report 95, Operational Quantities for External Radiation Exposure, jointly issued by the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements (ICRU) and the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP). Released in December 2020, the report presents a new system of operational quantities for external radiation protection. It is intended to address limitations in previously defined operational quantities and to meet the expanded needs of dose assessment across particle types and energy ranges, so that protection quantities can be estimated more effectively. The report is a major revision of operational quantities for external radiation protection and is important for research and applications in radiation metrology. To support the Chinese edition, the Institute coordinated the work, obtained translation authorization, and organized an expert team to conduct careful review and editing to ensure professional quality and accuracy.

The publication of the Chinese edition provides metrology and calibration institutions in China, manufacturers of radiation monitoring instruments, and professionals working in radiation protection with up-to-date international concepts and recommendations. It will help strengthen capacity for measurement traceability infrastructure in China, support related industrial and technological development in radiation metrology, enhance national radiation safety, and contribute to the Healthy China initiative.
