Delegation from the National Institute of Public Health of Burkina Faso Visits the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases
On 1 September 2025, a six member delegation led by Dr Seydou Barro, Director of the National Institute of Public Health (Institut National de Sante Publique, INSP) of Burkina Faso, and Dr Ousmane Nere, Director of Yalgado Ouedraogo University Hospital, visited the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases (NIPD) of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC). Yuan Dong, Director of the Division of Cooperation, Exchange and Training of the Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention, accompanied the visit.
The meeting was chaired by Dr Wang Duoquan, Deputy Director and Researcher at the Global Health Center. Director Yuan noted that mutual visits between the two sides are an important step in implementing China–Africa health cooperation. Dr Seydou Barro thanked the Chinese side for the invitation and said that Burkina Faso and China face similar public health challenges. He expressed the hope of mutual sharing experience in disease prevention and control, exploring areas of sustainable development, and jointly advancing exchange and cooperation on the control and research of parasitic diseases and vector borne diseases. Dr Li Shizhu, Director of NIPD, stressed that Burkina Faso is an important partner for China and said he hoped to further deepen mutual understanding and trust and to explore ideas and areas for collaboration. At the meeting, Dr Gauthier Tougri, Technical Director of the National Malaria Research and Training Center of INSP, presented the burden and distribution of vector borne diseases in Burkina Faso and the progress made in current control efforts. Dr Xia Shang, Dirctor and Researcher at the Emergency Office of the NIPD, outlined the progress and main experiences in the control of major parasitic diseases in China. Ms Ding Wei, Associate Researcher at the Global Health Center, introduced the institute’s work and achievements in global health. The two sides then discussed possible areas and pathways for future cooperation.
After the meeting, Associate Researcher Yan He from the Malaria Division introduced the National Malaria Reference Laboratory to the delegation. During the visit, the delegation also toured the Human Parasite Specimen Museum of the NIPD.
