The Office of Epidemiology of China CDC Holds Teaching Seminar on Postgraduate Courses in Epidemiology, Health Statistics and Health Economics

On 13 September 2025, the Office of Epidemiology of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), also known as the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, held the 2025 teaching seminar on postgraduate courses in epidemiology, health statistics and health economics in Beijing. The meeting was attended by faculty representatives from five universities, namely Peking University, Nanjing Medical University, Central South University, Sichuan University and Capital Medical University, as well as Qu Shuiling, Deputy Director of the Office of Education and Training (Graduate School) of China CDC, Ma Huilai, Director of the Office of Epidemiology, Zhang Lijie, Deputy Director of the Office of Epidemiology, and relevant staff members of the Office. The seminar was chaired by Deputy Director Zhang Lijie.

Qi Xiao and Hu Yuehua from the Office of Epidemiology presented an overview of the overall teaching arrangements for the three postgraduate courses in epidemiology, health statistics and health economics at China CDC. External experts from the universities shared insights on postgraduate teaching in related disciplines at their institutions and introduced several featured high-quality courses. Drawing on the characteristics of teaching within the disease control system, participants discussed the three courses in terms of teaching models, course content, existing challenges and directions for future reform. Deputy Director Qu Shuiling from the Office of Education and Training (Graduate School) affirmed the longstanding contribution of the Office of Epidemiology to postgraduate teaching at China CDC. In light of the Center’s designation of the current year as a year of reform and development and its high-quality development plan, put forward new directions for the development of postgraduate teaching in the three disciplines.

In her concluding remarks, Director Ma Huilai noted that the seminar would help improve the course systems for epidemiology, health statistics and health economics and further raise teaching quality. She added that the Office of Epidemiology will continue to align its work with the development goals of the Graduate School of China CDC and remain committed to building a postgraduate teaching system with distinctive features of China CDC.
