Training Course on Prevention and Control Technologies for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases in Africa Concludes Successfully
On the morning of 22 September, the training course on “Prevention and Control Technologies for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases in Africa,” sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC/Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine), successfully concluded. Xu Kai, Vice President of the Academy for International Business Officials of the Ministry of Commerce, and Li Qun, Deputy Director (Vice President) of China CDC, attended the closing ceremony and delivered remarks. Mr Bouraima Mama Adamou from the Department of Health of Alibori Province, Benin, spoke on behalf of all participants. A total of 22 health professionals from Nigeria, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Benin and other African countries attended the ceremony. Vice President Xu Kai presented certificates of completion to the participants. The closing ceremony was chaired by Qi Xiaopeng, Director of the Global Public Health Center of China CDC.
This training course was the first foreign aid training program of the Ministry of Commerce undertaken by China CDC. The fourteen day program covered practical topics such as disease surveillance, laboratory testing, outbreak control and emergency response. Participants completed classroom learning and study visits in both Beijing and Kunming, and the course achieved good results. It not only deepened mutual understanding between China and African countries in the field of public health, but also laid a solid foundation for continued cooperation in the future.
