Institute of Radiation Safety Leads Successful Bid to Host the 19th International Congress of Radiation Research
On 15 October 2025, the International Commission for Radiation Research sent an official letter of congratulations confirming that the China Radiation Research Council, led by the Institute of Radiation Safety of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, had won the bid to host the 19th International Congress of Radiation Research in 2031 after a competitive selection.
In the bidding process, the Institute of Radiation Safety represented the China Radiation Research Council and, together with the French Radiation Research Council, entered the final presentation round. On 2 September 2025, Liu Qingjie, Director of the Institute of Radiation Safety, gave an online bid presentation and response session, providing comprehensive and professional answers to the International Commission for Radiation Research on key issues such as congress planning, academic arrangements and logistical support.
The International Congress of Radiation Research is held every four years and is a major global academic meeting in the field of radiation research. According to the decision adopted, the 19th congress will be held in Beijing in October 2031 and is expected to attract more than one thousand experts, scholars and students from around the world.
The successful bid reflects the international radiation research community’s full recognition of China’s scientific strength in radiation research and its high regard for the academic influence and organizational capacity of the Institute of Radiation Safety. It will provide Chinese researchers with a valuable opportunity to take part in top-level international academic exchange in China and will strongly promote scientific innovation and international cooperation in the fields of radiation health and radiation safety.
