The 2025 National Public Health Emergency Response Meeting for CDC Institutions Held in Jinan, Shandong

The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) held the 2025 National Public Health Emergency Response Meeting for CDC institutions in Jinan, Shandong Province, on 6 November 2025. Nearly 150 representatives attended the meeting. They came from CDCs in all 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps CDC, the CDC of the People’s Liberation Army, the China Animal Disease Control Center, as well as affiliated institutions and departments of China CDC. Deputy Director General Hu Xiang of the Department of Surveillance and Early Warning of the National Administration of Disease Prevention and Control and Deputy Director General Mi Yanping of the Department of Emergency Response of the National Administration of Disease Prevention and Control attended the meeting. Also present were Li Qun, Deputy Director of China CDC, Gai Yingqun, Director of the Shandong Provincial Administration of Disease Prevention and Control, and Wang Yan, Director of the Shandong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Deputy Director General Hu Xiang and Deputy Director General Mi Yanping spoke highly of the public health emergency response work carried out by CDC institutions across the country over the past year. They called on CDC institutions at all levels to study and implement the Law on Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases and the Law on Response to Public Health Emergencies, and to continue to improve surveillance, early warning and emergency response. Deputy Director Li Qun underlined that problems need to be detected in a timely manner, which requires better reporting quality and stronger use of multiple surveillance and early warning channels. He stressed the need to enhance professional guidance on public health emergency response for CDC institutions nationwide, make full use of the strength of the national team, focus on key areas and address major issues. He also highlighted the importance of preparedness for public health emergencies, in particular for pandemic diseases and Disease X, and encouraged wider use of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, in surveillance, early warning and emergency response.

The meeting provided a venue for participants to learn about recent developments in public health emergency response and to strengthen communication and cooperation. It laid a basis for the next phase of work and came to a successful close.
