Launch and Implementation Plan Review Meeting Held for National Key R&D Program Project on “Immunological Characteristics and Key Control Technologies for HIV–Mpox Virus Co-infection”

On July 21, 2025, the launch and implementation plan review meeting for the National Key Research and Development Program project titled “Immunological Characteristics and Key Control Technologies for HIV–Mpox Virus Co-infection” was successfully held in Beijing. The project is led by Dr. Li Dan, a researcher at the National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention (hereinafter referred to as NCAIDS), Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC). Dr. Wang Jianwei, Director of China CDC (President of the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine); Ms. Wang Min, Deputy Director of Division II, Department of Project Management, Research Center for Medicinal and Health Technology Development of the National Health Commission; and Mr. Lü Fan, Deputy Director of NCAIDS, attended the meeting and delivered remarks. Over 50 participants, including project advisory experts and project team members, were in attendance.

Dr. Wang Jianwei emphasized the need to uphold a problem-oriented approach, systems thinking, and long-term development. He called for using this project as a pivot to build a research system that integrates peacetime preparedness with emergency response, and to strengthen a sustainable national research force in infectious disease immunopathogenesis, thereby enabling a transition from emergency-driven breakthroughs to long-term strategic capacity building. Ms. Wang Min put forward specific requirements for project implementation from the perspective of program management, ensuring that the project will be completed on schedule and with high quality. Mr. Lü Fan stated that, as the lead institution, NCAIDS will fully leverage its platform advantages to coordinate resources and facilitate the effective implementation of the research tasks.

The expert panel listened to presentations from the project leader and sub-project leaders on the implementation plan. They affirmed the preliminary work completed and offered comments on project objectives, technical approaches, and management mechanisms. The panel unanimously agreed that the implementation plan had passed the review. The project team expressed their commitment to earnestly incorporate expert recommendations, continuously refine the implementation plan, and advance the project toward high-quality completion.
