The China Field Epidemiology Training Program of China CDC (Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine) Hosts 2025 Training Workshop for Field Epidemiology Training Program Mentors

From May 22 to 23, 2025, the China Field Epidemiology Training Program (CFETP) of China CDC (Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine) held the 2025 CFETP Mentor Training Workshop in Beijing. More than 100 participants attended the event, including primary mentors for two-year and intermediate CFETP trainees, field mentors from training bases, and CFETP program mentors. The workshop was chaired by CFETP Deputy Director Zhang Lijie.

Ma Huilai, Director of the Division of Epidemiology at China CDC and Director of CFETP, delivered opening remarks. She extended heartfelt appreciation to the mentors for their dedication and contributions, and expressed hopes for the continued strengthening of a systematic mentorship framework, the advancement of mentor competencies, and the cultivation of a distinctive mentoring culture within CFETP. She also presented honorary certificates to ten mentors recognized as Outstanding Primary Mentors for the year 2024. Deputy Directors Zhang Lijie and Liu Huihui gave detailed presentations on the training plans and mentor responsibilities for the two-year and intermediate FETP tracks, respectively. The workshop featured a series of expert lectures by invited speakers, including Feng Zijian, Vice President of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association; Professor Liu Min from the School of Public Health at Peking University; Zhang Ying, Deputy Director of Tianjin CDC; Lei Jie, Chief Expert at Shandong CDC; Zheng Canjun, Researcher at China CDC; and Dr. Lance Rodewald, Senior Advisor for Immunization at China CDC. The lectures addressed topics such as the spirit of CFETP mentorship, selection of research topics, high-quality outbreak investigations, decision-making in public health emergencies, and surveillance data analysis. In the concluding session, Deputy Director Zhang Lijie introduced the newly developed CFETP Mentor Training Platform.

Since 2005, China CDC / CFETP has organized an annual CFETP Mentor Training Workshop. The 2025 edition provided a valuable platform for updating knowledge and skills, sharing experiences and insights, and exchanging information and resources. The workshop played a positive role in strengthening mentor capacities and promoting the high-quality development of CFETP.
