Working Together for Health: The Center for Tuberculosis Prevention and Control of China CDC Provides Technical Support for Nujiang Prefecture, Yunnan Province

 

With the aim of enhancing the tuberculosis (TB) prevention and control capacity in Nujiang Prefecture, Yunnan Province,supported by the third round of the TB Prevention and Control Projectof the Fondation Mérieux, the Center for Tuberculosis Prevention and Control of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) organized an expert team from October 21 to 24, 2024, to offer technical assistance to Nujiang’s TB prevention ａｎｄ control efforts through professional skills training ａｎｄ on-site technical guidance. The expert team was composed by Zhao Yanlin, Director of the Center for TB Prevention ａｎｄ Control of the China CDC, and comprised Wang Ni, Li Tao, Ou Xichao, and Wang Jia researcher; An Huiru, Director of the Department of TB at the Eighth Medical Center of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army General Hospital; Peng Ying, physician at the Zhejiang Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention; ａｎｄ Dr. Jonathan Hoffmann and Dr. Huang Yanjun from the Fondation Mérieux. A total of 80 officials and staff from health departments, CDCs, and designated TB hospitals at various levels ｉｎ Nujiang Prefecture participated in the training. The experts gave comprehensive ａｎｄ detailed explanations regarding the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and patient management of TB. The training adopted a case-sharing interactive method, using vivid case analyses to set up question-and-answer exchange sessions, which helped participants improve their professional knowledge and skills, and was highly commended by the participants. 

 

Meanwhile, Dr. Zhao Yanlin, the Director of the Center for TB Prevention and Control of the China CDC, accompanied Dr. Jonathan Hoffmann of the Fondation Mérieux to visit several primary healthcare facilities in Nujiang Prefecture and offer on-site technical guidance. They inspected the TB outpatient clinic, laboratory, and other facilities, and provided practical and feasible suggestions for improvement based on the identified problems and shortcomings. The French experts fully recognized the initial progress and preliminary achievements of the project and expressed their willingness to continue collaborating with the Center for TB Prevention and Control of the China CDC to support the TB prevention and control work in Nujiang and to provide financial and technical assistance as needed.

 

This technical assistance activity not only further enhanced the professional proficiency and skills of TB prevention and control personnel in Nujiang Prefecture, but also contributed to the sustainable advancement of TB prevention and control efforts in Nujiang Prefecture.
