The 10th Conference on Sustainable Vector Control Convened in Mianyang, Sichuan

From October 15 to 17, 2024, the 10th Conference on Sustainable Vector Control was held in Mianyang, Sichuan Province. With the theme “Addressing Global Change, Controlling Vectors, and Protecting Public Health,” the event brought together prominent figures, including Wu Xiangtian, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Planning, Development, and Informatization of the National Health Commission; Feng Zijian, Vice President of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association (CPMA); Wu Mingyu, Vice Mayor of Mianyang; Jia Jianxun, Deputy Director-General of the Sichuan Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention; and Yan Jun, Deputy Director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC). Dr. Raman Velayudhan, Head of the Department of Vector Ecology and Management at the World Health Organization (WHO), delivered a virtual address. The opening ceremony was presided over by Kan Biao, Director of the National Institute for Communicable Disease Control and Prevention under the China CDC. 
 
Jointly organized by the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association and the Chinese Center for Disease Control andPrevention, the conference was co-hosted by the CPMA Vector Biology and Control Branch, the Mianyang Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Key Laboratory for Communicable Disease Source Tracking, Early Warning, and Intelligent Decision-Making. The event attracted 484 delegates from 11 countries, including China, the United States, Canada, and Australia. The opening ceremony was livestreamed on Xinhuanet Sichuan, amassing an audience of over 3 million. Coverage of the event was also featured on platforms such as Sichuan Observation, Chuan Guan News, Fujiang News, and Mianyang News.
 
During the conference, 17 esteemed experts from China and abroad delivered keynote speeches. Additionally, 122 specialists presented their research findings and shared industry management insights across 11 breakout sessions. Discussions centered on new theories, methodologies, technologies, products, and practices in vector control science, with a focus on advancing sustainable vector control strategies. The conference served as a crucial platform for enhancing China’s vector control capabilities and furthering the prevention and control of vector-borne diseases.
